Manufacturing
The manufacturing sector on the Isle of Man has a significant role to play in supporting the continual growth and diversification of the Island's economy.
The DTI recognises this situation and is dedicated to working closely with the sector to encourage existing businesses to develop and grow and new ones to establish on the Isle of Man. The DTI is particularly keen to encourage further high-tech/ high-value manufacturing opportunities to the Island which has a well established infrastructure to support this type of activity.
The DTI has created a close working relation with the Manufacturing and Technical Industries Committee (MTIC) of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce through the appointment of Neil Wilson, head of the DTI’s Economic Development Group, as ‘champion’ for the sector. The DTI also has strong links with Salford University which is an industrial based university. This provides IOM businesses with direct access to specific expertise.
There are a number of schemes specifically designed to support manufacturing businesses through the provision of financial assistance towards capital investment, productivity improvements, efficiency savings and start-up assistance. Please see our Grants and Assistance page for more details.
In association with the MTIC a new initiative has now been launched which supports our heritage and the concentration of aerospace related manufacturers in the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster (IOMAC) provides a framework which enables greater collaboration, networking, quality and process excellence, marketing and economies of scale purchasing support specific to all sector related businesses.
