| Synopsis | Set in the 1970s, The Rotters Club is an effortless blend of the personal and the political, a coming-of-age comedy-drama that takes in everything from the horror of IRA bombings to the delights and confusion of first love and first grope.
At the heart of the book is young Birmingham schoolboy Benjamin Trotter, an aspiring musician who lusts after the impossibly gorgeous Cicely Boyd and conceals his nascent Christianity (God helped him find his swimming trunks) from the world. But as Benjamin and his three best friends – anarchic jokester Sean Harding, class warrior Doug Anderton and prog-rock lover Philip Chase – grow up, they inevitably find themselves, and the world around them, begin to change.
