Employment Tribunal

The Employment Tribunal is a special court of law which determines complaints brought under employment protection legislation, for example, complaints of sex discrimination, unfair dismissal, and non-payment of the minimum wage. The Tribunal has exclusive jurisdiction to hear many types of complaint such as unfair dismissal cases.

The Employment Tribunal is separate from the DTI and is part of the Tribunals Service in General Registry.

Sometimes an individual may wish to discuss the matter before making a claim to the Employment Tribunal. In such circumstances they can contact the Manx Industrial Relations Service, who provide a free and impartial service, and are available to talk to individuals and employers with regard to matters such as employment rights, employment disputes and potential claims to the Employment Tribunal. If appropriate they can conciliate even if no claim has been made to the Employment Tribunal.
