Employment Act 2006
The Employment Act 2006 (formerly the Employment Bill 2005) and associated Regulations has modernised the Isle of Man employment law framework and in particular the law relating to individual employment rights.
Guidance Material
The Department has produced a wide range of guidance material on the rights under the new legislation.
The rights provided for in the Act and Regulations were phased in through 2007, with most of the significant rights coming into force on 30th September 2007, see the timetable for more details.
Maternity and Other Family Rights
The new rights came into force for parents where the expected date of childbirth was on or after 30th September 2007. Employees received protection from dismissal or detriment in respect of exercising the new rights from 1st April 2007. There are certain notice requirements in place for employees who wish to exercise these rights.
