Construction Industry in the Isle of Man
The Department is responsible for Government policy in relation to the local construction sector.
Government's extensive Capital Programme together with private sector work is generating high levels of activity within this sector and increased demand on the Department's responsibilities, including administration of Government's List of Approved Contractors and the Scheme for the Certification of Craftsmen. The Department will continue to build on the established relationship with the Isle of Man Employers' Federation, both as agents of the Department in relation to the List of Approved Contractors and as representatives of the local industry. The Department is also represented on the Isle of Man Construction Forum, which is a multi disciplinary organisation established to discuss a wide range of construction issues and promote training and good practice within the local industry.
The Department is working closely with the sector to help to address important current issues such as escalating employer liability insurance premiums, health and safety training issues, the increasing use of off-Island contractors and the introduction of relevant legislation.
