All About Recycling
In the natural environment recycling is the key process in the eco system which ensures we have fresh water and a continuous supply of nutrients in our soil. It is the way land is created, destroyed and created again.
In terms of waste, recycling is the process by which goods which are unwanted or unusable are collected, and treated either mechanically or by heat, and turned into materials which can be used to make new products. For example an aluminium drinks can is melted down to produce an ingot of aluminium which can then be used to make new drinks cans, car parts, or sections of a plane!
On the Isle of Man recycling is placed above recovery of heat from burning waste or landfill of waste, in the waste hierarchy ( priority of ways we should manage our waste).
