Civic Amenity Sites
There are four Civic Amenity Sites on the Island providing facilities for local residents to deposit items of general bulky household waste which will not fit into the household waste bin (e.g. washing machines, kitchen units). The Sites also provide a recycling service for a number of materials including lead acid batteries (e.g. car batteries); dry cell batteries (e.g. rechargeable or single use batteries); scrap metal; garden waste; glass; aluminium; paper & clothing.
The Department of Transport and Department of Local Government and the Environment, are working together to improve the Island’s infrastructure in the North through the proposed construction of a new Northern Civic Amenity Site and a regional Sewage Treatment Works at Balladoole, Lezayre. See the information leaflet in the downloadable documents below.
Recycling efforts at each of the Civic Amenity Sites are are being expanded to remove hazardous household waste from the waste stream. From 1st April 2007, the Department has funded the recycling of TVs, computer VDUs and fluorescent light tubes delivered by householders to the Sites. The arrangements for the recycling of fridges and freezers will be maintained as before.
Since 1st April 2007, the Island's residents have been able to access any Civic Amenity Site on the Island. This followed a Tynwald Resolution in January 2006 to standardise access to, and provision of services within, the Civic Amenity Sites. For further information, please follow the links to the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Civic Amenity Sites.
If you require further advice regarding access or facilities, please contact your Local Commissioners or the Civic Amenity site directly. See links above, for contact details.
