Permitted Development
There are a number of works which may be carried out without the necessity of submitting a formal planning application. The level of Permitted Development was last reviewed by the introduction of legislation, 1st November 2005. A number of guides have been prepared in relation to the areas of Permitted Development, to view these see our publications page.

It is imperative that all aspects of the criteria set by Permitted Development are met before commencing any works as failure to comply in any area could result in a breach of planning control and enforcement action being required. Link to enforcements page. Should you be in any doubt please contact the Directorate via our Contacts page.
Any property within a Conservation Area or National Heritage Area along with ALL registered buildings are excluded from the works allowed by Permitted Development. Visit the relevant pages for information.
