Introduction
The Planning office is housed within the Planning and Building Control Directorate of the Department of Local Government and the Environment, which is based in Murray House, Mount Havelock, Douglas. Details of how to contact us can be found on our contacts page.

Most members of the public will never have cause to use the services of the Planning Office, accordingly many will have little or no experience of how the system works. Thus advice is on hand at all levels for the enquirer, go to our planning advice page.
The Island is divided into 17 Parishes (Douglas Town is part of the Onchan Parish) and the Directorate has 5 Development Control Officers each covering specific areas of the Island. Further details of these officers, and a map showing their areas of responsibility is available in the contacts page.
The planning legislation and procedures have undergone a thorough review and, on 1st November 2005, a new planning procedure was introduced.
Levels of permitted development were also reviewed and, whilst levels do not match those offered in other jurisdictions, they have been increased.
