Public Sector housing in the Isle of Man is provided by the Department of Local Government and the Environment, and certain Housing Authorities. These Authorities, listed below, administer general housing stock within their Local Authority areas:

Common criteria for waiting list, and allocation of properties
Since January 2002, all the housing authorities have applied a common approach for acceptance on to housing waiting lists and for allocation of properties.
With regard to acceptance on to a waiting list, it is important to note that an applicant for public sector housing must have been resident on the Island for ten years, five of which must have been spent in the area where the application is to be made. For example, an applicant who has lived on the Island for ten years, of which six were spent living in Onchan, would apply to Onchan District Commissioners. With regard to the allocation of properties, a points system is applied in which applicants are awarded points in accordance with their needs. Download full details of the allocation criteria from the document table at the bottom of the page.
How to Apply

In order to apply for acceptance on a housing list, it is necessary to complete an application form. It is important to note that the application form must be acquired from, and submitted to, the relevant Housing Authority. To obtain a form from another Housing Authority, please refer to the list of Authorities at the top of this page, which will enable you to acquire relevant contact details.
