Car Parks

The Department owns 2 car parks; Chester Street and Drumgold Street, and both are pay and display.

The Department proposes to make Orders which will increase the charges for the use of both car parks with effect from 1 April 2010. To view both the Press Notices and the draft Orders see the downloadable documents below.

Chester Street

Where can I find it?

It is located at the rear of the Shoprite store in Douglas. For reference view the map. It can be accessed via 2 points; at ground level from Chester Street; and at level 5 from Finch Road.

What are the opening times?

It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What are the parking arrangements on the different levels?

There are 9 levels.

Parking on levels 1, 2, and 3 is restricted to a maximum of 3 hours. Levels 4, 5 and 6 are all day parks, contract parking is reserved on levels 7, 8, 9 Monday - Friday only. Shoppers may now use levels 7, 8, 9 at weekends for all day parking.

What is the cost of Parking?

The current costs are as follows –

Levels 1, 2 & 3

Up to 3 hours £1.20

Levels 4, 5 & 6

Up to 1 hour £.80p
Up to 2 hours £1.00
Up to 3 hours £1.20

There are two new prices for Chester Street Car Park:

08.00am - 12.45pm £2.90
12.45pm - 17.00pm £2.90

The cost of buying a contract, which apply to levels 7, 8 and 9 is £875.00 per annum + vat. All spaces are currently occupied and a waiting list is in place. Contracts are renewed in April each year.

What is the maximum height of the car park?

The maximum height is 1.8325m.

Is there a fine for an infringement?

Yes, the current fine is £50, reducible to £25 if paid within 14 days.

Drumgold Street

Where can I find it?

It is located above Marks & Spencer PLC in Douglas. For reference view the map. It can be accessed via 2 points; at ground level from either Market Street or Nelson Street.
