Car Parks

Chester Street | Drumgold Street

The Department owns 2 car parks; Chester Street and Drumgold Street, and both are pay and display.

Chester Street

Where can I find it?

It is located at the rear of the Shoprite store in Douglas. For reference view the map. It can be accessed via 2 points; at ground level from Chester Street; and at level 5 from Finch Road.

What are the opening times?

It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What are the parking arrangements on the different levels?

There are 9 levels.

Parking on levels 1, 2, and 3 is restricted to a maximum of 3 hours. Levels 4, 5 and 6 are all day parks, contract parking is reserved on levels 7, 8, 9 Monday - Friday only. Shoppers may now use levels 7, 8, 9 at weekends for all day parking.

What is the cost of Parking?

The current costs are as follows –

Levels 1, 2 & 3

  • Up to 1 hour £.80p
  • Up to 2 hours £1.00
  • Up to 3 hours £1.20

Levels 4, 5 & 6

  • Up to 1 hour £.80p
  • Up to 2 hours £1.00
  • Up to 3 hours £1.20
  • Up to 4 hours £2.00
  • Up to 5 hours £3.00
  • Over 5 hours £4.00

There are two new prices for Chester Street Car Park:

  • 08.00am - 12.45pm £2.90
  • 12.45pm - 17.00pm £2.90

The cost of buying a contract, which apply to levels 7, 8 and 9 is £750.00 per annum + vat. All spaces are currently occupied and a waiting list is in place. Contracts are renewed in April each year.

What is the maximum height of the car park?

The maximum height is 1.8325m.

Is there a fine for an infringement?

Yes, the current fine is £50, reducible to £25 if paid within 14 days.

Drumgold Street

Where can I find it?

It is located above Marks & Spencer PLC in Douglas. For reference view the map. It can be accessed via 2 points; at ground level from either Market Street or Nelson Street.

What are the opening and closing times?

It opens at 8.00 am, and closes approximately 1 hour after Marks and Spencer closes. The closing time varies at different times of the year.

What are the parking arrangements on the different levels?

This is a short stay car park, permitting a maximum of 3 hours on all levels. Contract parking is not available.

What is the cost of Parking?

The current costs are as follows –

  • Levels 1,2 & 3
  • Up to 1 hour £.80p
  • Up to 2 hours £1.00
  • Up to 3 hours £1.20

What is the maximum height of the car park?

The maximum height is 1.975m

Is there a fine for an infringement?

Yes, the current fine is £50, reducible to £25 if paid within 14 days.

The Department has released a Public Notice advising that it will be making the Drumgold Street (Off-Street Car Park) Order 2008. The principal changes proposed are:-

  • provision for the operation of new pay and display machines in the Car Park;
  • provision to issue an Excess Parking Ticket for parking in a disabled space when not in possession of, or displaying, a valid disabled badge; and
  • provision to enable the Department to remove any vehicle parked within the car park in contravention of the Order, including failure to pay outstanding Excess Charge Tickets.
