Avian Flu

The following information is guidance that should be followed in case anyone discovers a bird carcass or any other animal carcass.

Anyone with queries concerning domestic poultry or other domestic birds should contact their private vet.

For wild bird carcase queries:

  • Single unexplained Swan Death - inform DAFF Animal Health on 01624 685844.
  • Multiple (more than 4) of one species esp. water fowl - inform Animal Health as above.
  • General public enquiries re. birds: refer to Animal Health.
  • In terms of public health, GPs should be contacted in the first instance.
  • If anyone comes across a carcass, they should contact Animal Health. DAFF advised, in fact, that the public should not handle carcasses at all. DAFF dispatch bodies to VLA Preston, by arrangement.
