Energy Projects
We are investigating the viability of using Isle of Man wood-fuel from DAFF plantations to heat some Government buildings, for example Schools, Swimming Pools and Sheltered Housing.
Heat from wood fuel, burned in special biomass boilers, is environmentally friendly and carbon neutral because the plantations are managed and are replanted so there is always more trees to replace those harvested.
The graph on the right shows the relative prices of Isle of Man fuels, as at April 2007. Wood Heating is a very cost-effective source of energy.
The photos on this page all related to a study visit to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council in Yorkshire. We were investigating their award winning wood fuel project and learning from their experience.
