MEALS ON WHEELS
What are Meals on Wheels?
They are main meals, including a pudding, in special containers, delivered to your home by drivers employed by the Meals on Wheels Organisation administered by Age Concern Isle of Man in partnership with Social Services Division.
Who gets Meals on Wheels?
They are provided to people who are homebound permanently or temporarily and either of pensionable age or otherwise unable to look after themselves.
Are they ready to eat?
The meals are prepared at Noble's Hospital kitchens and fast chilled delivered to you the next day in refrigerated vans. You will then need to reheat them yourself by putting the whole container in a microwave or ordinary oven.
Are they delivered every day?
Everyone is assessed as to their need for Meals on Wheels. Some people get them every day but others will only get them on days agreed between the Meals on Wheels Organiser and the client. The chilled meals will keep in a refrigerator for up to 3 days and you can choose what time of day to eat the meal or keep it until the following day, as long as they are eaten before the expiry date displayed on the meal.
Do I have to pay?
Yes, all meals must be paid for. The cost of providing a meal is reviewed every year. For further details please contact 687308.
How can I get a meal?
You can ring the Home Care office direct on 686188 during normal office hours or get someone to ring for you. Someone will then arrange to call and see you to discuss your needs with you. Any other enquiries should be made to the Meals on Wheels office 687308 any morning.
