RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT
Important information for anyone travelling to the UK
Extension of Reciprocal Health Agreement between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom from 1st April 2010 for six months
Message from the DHSS
The reciprocal health agreement between the Governments of the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man has been extended until the end of September 2010.
The agreement ensures UK visitors to the Isle of Man have full and free access to National Health Service facilities during their stay in the event of illness or injury.
The agreement had been due to end on March 31 2010, but that has now been extended by six months. It is important to bear in mind, however, that neither the UK nor the Isle of Man Health Service will pay for medical repatriation to your home country if you become ill or injured and cannot travel by normal means. You are therefore very strongly advised to have appropriate insurance in place.
Be assured, however, that this will NOT affect those patients referred for treatment to the UK by the Isle of Man Health Service
To help Isle of Man residents to prepare for this change, we have prepared the following information which I hope will prove useful to you in the coming months.
These Frequently Asked Questions will provide you with more information about the ending of the Reciprocal Health Agreement at the present time. The DHSS will continue to provide information to the public as decisions are made by the Isle of Man Government about future arrangements. If you have any further questions after reading this leaflet, e-mail the Health Services Division at healthservices.dhss@gov.im, or telephone 642608.
The information in this Leaflet can be provided in large print or on audio tape on request.
