NEW COMMISSIONING AND SPECIAL PROJECTS OFFICER
Erica Kermode has been appointed to Isle of Man Health Services as the new Commissioning and Special Projects Officer. As part of the Health Services Senior Management Team, Erica’s role is to lead projects, including commissioning of health services; research projects and those involving policy related issues; to co-ordinate the business planning process within the Division and to manage the Reciprocal Health Agreements between the Isle of Man National Health Service and other jurisdictions, most notably the United Kingdom National Health Service.
She comes to the DHSS from the Department of Transport, where she was the Strategic Planning and Process Manager and prior to that she was the Island’s Deputy Chief Coastguard. She says:
“I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues in Health – both on the Isle of Man, and in the UK - and to tackling the many challenges ahead, particularly given the changes in the UK NHS following the Darzi report and the introduction of ‘World Class Commissioning’. I do not have a Health Service background so I am currently on a very steep learning curve!”
Erica is also an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve, currently attached to the National Cadet Force (NCF) where, as an RYA Yachtmaster/Cruising Instructor, she teaches cadets and cadet force officers to sail. With the NCF she has been involved in several major expeditions, the most challenging of which was “Operation Fire and Ice” sailing from Scotland to circumnavigate Iceland in a 55’ yacht with nine cadets and four officers, surviving Force 9 gales north of the Arctic Circle.
In her spare time she enjoys riding her horses, SCUBA diving, sailing and gardening.
