Introduction
Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital is managed by Mr Brian Pressley.
The current Hospital Manager at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital fulfils a dual role as General Manager and Senior Nurse.
Having a professional background in nursing and maintaining Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council enables the Hospital Manager to take an active part in the development, as well as the management, of the hospital’s nursing service and to be representative on the island’s Nursing & Midwifery Advisory Council (NMAC). With the assistance of the Nurse Manager he has responsibility for recruitment, selection and post registration training of all Registered Nurses and of the Health Care Assistants employed. In this respect he oversees the selection of new or replacement equipment and the trial of new products to be used in the care of patients.
As a General Manager, the Hospital Manager has responsibility for all staff employed by the hospital regardless of their discipline or grade. In this role the Manager leads in the development of a three-year service plan and then facilitates the achievement of the agreed objectives within the allocated budget. The General Manager meets with the Primary Care Manager on a regular basis and represents the hospital on the Primary Care Executive Team, in addition he meets regularly with representatives from the GP’s, the Director of Estates Services, and with staff from the DHSS and IoM Government Personnel Departments.
Mission Statement
Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital exists to deliver a varied range of quality diagnostic, therapeutic and care services predominantly for persons resident in the North of the island, who may require either acute or intermediate interventions.
Hospital Philosophy
We believe that Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital should:

Hospital Objectives
- To improve the quality of life of the target population through preventative measures or treatment interventions aimed at the control of symptoms associated with illness, disease or disability in accordance with clinical need
- To provide a comprehensive and readily available range of services, delivered via a multi-disciplinary team
- To support community patients, and their families and carers, by providing respite care programmes and Day Services
