PODIATRY SERVICE
Podiatry is concerned with the health of the feet. Adequate foot care services not only lessen the pain and discomfort of large numbers of elderly people, but increase the mobility of many, thus preventing dependence, and the ensuing demands on other services. Therefore foot care services should be regarded as an economy rather than an expense.
The Podiatrist is responsible for the early diagnosis of many diseases and plays a key role in preventing and treating those aspects which affect the foot and lower limb.
The Podiatry service is managed from Crookall House, Demesne Road, Douglas, where there is a small number of administrative staff who look after the appointments system. Treatment is provided by Podiatrists at eight clinics around the Island:-
- Cummal Mooar, Ramsey
- Rushen Clinic, Port St Mary
- Peel Day Centre
- Westmoreland Road, Douglas (2 clinics)
- Noble's Hospital, Douglas
- Manx Diabetes Centre, Noble's Hospital
- Laxey, Health Centre
The Podiatry service is also provided in the patient's home, where this is appropriate, as well as Residential and Nursing Homes, Care in the Community Homes and on individual wards at all the Island's hospitals.
