The Wound Management Clinic is a Nurse led clinic and was set up to meet the needs of clients in the North of the Island with chronic / difficult to heal wounds.
The clinic has operated in its current format for four years and operates between the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday (including Bank Holidays), with support from MIU staff at the weekends if required.
It is run by four members of staff, a Nurse Practitioner, Staff Nurse and a Health Care Assistant, supported by another part time Staff Nurse as required. Regular valuable medical support is provided by the GP's in the North who assist in the care of their clients at the clinic.
In a bid to provide a seamless system of care, strong links have been established with Community Nurses and a shared system of care is in operation. Links are also established with the Island's Tissue Viability Nurse and the clinic's nurses regularly attend Wound Care conferences / study days in the UK, to maintain standards and keep up to date with trends in Wound Care.
The philosophy of the clinic is to provide a holistic, client-centred approach to Wound Care, using evidence based practice and involving a multidisciplinary team. The main aim of the clinic is to provide an open and user friendly system of continuing care where clients can build up confidence and establish relationships with the clinic staff, knowing that they will be seen regularly by the same core group of staff.
The Referral System
Referrals are accepted from General Practitioners, any member of the multidisciplinary team, or clients themselves
