Medication
When the doctor decides that you can go home, there will be a short delay whilst Pharmacy dispenses your prescription. It is usually best not to arrange transport, especially taxis, until your medication is available on the ward. You will be given one week’s supply to take home, for which there is no charge.
Informing your Family Doctor on Discharge
You will be given a letter for your family doctor with relevant information regarding your treatment. The consultant in charge of your care will also write to your family doctor.
Ambulance Transport on Discharge
If ambulance transport has been arranged, your relatives may be requested to collect equipment (e.g. a Zimmer frame) following your discharge, owing to limited space in the ambulance. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
Your Post
The Ward Clerk or your named nurse will check with you the address to which your mail can be forwarded.
What to do on Dischrage
- arrange for your family and friends to bring in the clothes that you will require for your journey home
- make sure please that hospital clothing, linen, library books etc, are not accidentally taken home.
Your Concerns on Discharge
If you foresee any difficulties relating to your discharge, please inform your doctor, nurse or the Ward Manager.
