| Q | I want to take a holiday on the Isle of Man. Will I receive medical treatment if I need it? |

| A | All visitors are entitled to immediate and necessary medical treatment in an emergency situation, for which no charge will be made. However, if you are subsequently admitted to hospital a charge may be made for all treatment received unless you are a resident of the UK. | Q | I am a pensioner currently living on the Isle of Man who wishes to move to a European Union country. Will I be eligible for medical treatment in the country I move to? |
| A | An Isle of Man pensioner who takes up permanent residence in a European Union country will receive medical cover in that country if they have paid sufficient national insurance contributions in the UK - not the Isle of Man - to give them entitlement to at least 25% basic retirement in their own right. | Q | I have an NHS appointment at a hospital in the UK. Who do I contact with regard to my travel arrangements? Do I have to pay for the travel? |
| A | Travel arrangements for you to attend and return from a UK hospital appointment are made by the Patient Transfers section. The only travel costs associated with your attendance at your NHS appointment will be local taxi fares, unless you are deemed to be in receipt of a low income. I am an Isle of Man resident travelling to the UK and wish to receive NHS services whilst there - do I need to take anything with me? A. You will need to have a passport or proof of residence in order to receive NHS services. This does not affect those who are referred to the UK. |
| Q | Can somebody accompany me to my appointment? |
| A | If it is deemed necessary by your doctor on either age or medical grounds, you will be able to take somebody with you. The Health Services will also organise and pay for their travel. Email: healthservices@dhss.gov.im |
| Q | Am I entitled to funding towards private medical treatment ? |

| Q | What is my entitlement to a second medical opinion? |
| A | You are entitled to be referred for a second Consultant opinion if both you and your General Practitioner agree that it is desirable. A leaflet which gives a more detailed explanation of your entitlement to a second medical opinion is available from General Practices, Pharmacies, the Citizens advice Service, or direct from the Health Services on 01624 - 642608. | Q | What is the Home Care Service? |
| A | The Home Care Service provides support to enable people to continue living in their own homes for as along as they are able. The amount of help provided depends on the needs of the individual client who is encouraged to remain as independent as possible. |
| Q | Who can get Home Care? |
| A | Those who are unable to cope with personal care and physical tasks due to illness and age. Post operative conditions requiring rest and convalescence, psychological or mental conditions which interfere with ability to look after themselves, long term disabilities, post natal complications, carer needing support. |
| Q | What do Home Carers do? |
| A | Following assessment of the needs of the client by the Home Care Organiser, and taking into account the ability and expectations of the client and any other support available a care plan is drawn up, specifying what tasks the Home Carer will undertake. This may be any of the following :- Assisting with washing/dressing, toileting, preparation of food, lighting coal fires/bringing in coal, shopping/paying bills, collecting benefits from the Post Office, ironing, bed changing and some housework |
