FAMILY PLANNING CLINIC

The clinic in Douglas (Phone 642186) provides contraceptive services to individuals of reproductive age. The service is free and confidential within child protection boundaries.

The clinic provides pregnancy tests, advice on unexpected pregnancies, pre-conceptual advice and cervical screening smears. Limited sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening can be undertaken but, if an STI is suspected, the Genito-Urinary Medicine (GUM) Service at Noble’s Hospital (Phone 650710) should be contacted.

Specialist guidance is provided to assist individuals to male an informed decision on their contraception, taking into account their social, family and medical history, lifestyle and preferences.

Clients do not automatically see a doctor. Family Planning qualified nurses see clients and dispense contraception under Patient Group Directives.

There are five clinics each week as follows:

Monday 12noon – 13.30 - Drop in session
Wednesday 18.30 – 20.00 - Appointment session
Thursday 18.30 – 20.00 - Appointment session
Friday 13.00 – 15.00 - Appointment session
Saturday 10.00 – 11.30 - Drop in session – Nurse led clinic
