The Clinical Governance Strategies are a strategic framework for the development of high quality healthcare.
Clinical Governance is one of the most fundamental forces shaping the National Health Service. Successful implementation is a complex and long-term task, requiring a move toward an open, transparent and blame-free culture, which is questioning and critical of the system as a whole, rather than of the people working in it. Clinical governance requires us to ask - not who is wrong, but what is wrong?
The purpose of the strategies are to provide the foundations to adopt a comprehensive clinical governance programme with emphasis on multi-professional improvement which is patient focussed, resulting in sustainable and continuous quality improvement. It outlines the strategic direction to ensure the concept of clinical governance is understood across the organisation. It will facilitate the cultural shift necessary for quality improvement and successful implementation of clinical governance.
