ACCIDENT PREVENTION

Introduction to Manx Accident Prevention Forum
The Manx Accident Prevention Forum was formed in October 2006 and is lead by Public Health. This is a multi-agency forum with representatives from the following Government Departments, Health and Social Security, Home Affairs, Education, Transport, Local Government and Environment, Tourism and Leisure and the Office of Fair Trading.
Accidents and injuries can have a devastating affect, impacting on society both emotionally and financially. Children are at particular risk to accidents in the home and school age children are most at risk from pedestrian accidents. More young people die from accidents than any other cause, in particular car crashes. Falls and fire can have a devastating and extremely costly effect on health, well being and independence of older people. However, in the majority of cases these accidents are preventable and with the right interventions there is considerable scope for these to be reduced.
Through effective partnership working the Forum will be able to reach larger target audiences and plan interventions, whether resource based or through education to assist in the reduction of accidents on the Island.
