KEY DATABASES
A | D | E | I | K | M | P | WThere are a number of databases that are available. Some are password protected and you will need to contact library staff to find out if you are eligible to obtain one. The databases provide references together with abstracts if one is available. Sometimes full text is available.

- BMJ CLINICAL EVIDENCE is an international source of the best available evidence on the effects of common clinical interventions. At the heart of the resource is the peer-reviewed journal that publishes systematic reviews, RCT's and observational studies where appropriate. - CHILD DATA - This database covers research and literature about children and young people from a wide range of disciplines, not just from the health and social care viewpoint. Accessing four databases in total, covering policy, legislation, practice and research, from current thinking to background and historical work together with information about national and international child care organisations. - CINAHL - The Cinahl database is a comprehensive and authoritative source of information for nurses, allied health professionals, and others interested in health care. - COCHRANE LIBRARY - The Cochrane Library is an electronic publication designed to supply high quality evidence to inform people providing and receiving care, and those responsible for research, teaching, funding and administration at all levels. - DH_DATA - is jointly produced by two services at the Department of Health (UK): The Department of Health Library and Information Service and the PH (Protection of Health) Information Unit. The core subjects covered by the Department of Health Library are health service and hospital administration, with an emphasis on the British National Health Service, including planning, design, construction and maintenance of health service buildings; medical equipment and supplies; public health, nursing and primary care; occupational diseases; social policy; and social services for children, families, people with disabilities and elderly people. - IMAGES.MD - images.MD compiles over 50,000 high-quality images spanning all of internal medicine, all derived from Current Medicine’s renowned series of illustrated atlases. - KINGS FUND - The library's resources reflect the King's Fund's focus on improving health and health care, covering policy and management of health and social care services in the UK rather than clinical issues and treatments. - MATERNITY AND INFANT CARE - provides maternity health professionals with an overview of key midwifery and medical research to inform their practice. The information is gathered from over 550 international journals and original articles are commissioned on the hot topics being discussed by the midwifery profession. - PsycINFO - covers psychological practice and research as well as the related clinical, social and biological disciplines. (Athens password required). http://www.library.nhs.uk/mylibrary/default.aspx
- PUBMED - PubMed is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 16 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. Access free. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/

- WORLD HEALTH ORGANSIATION - Full text of WHO publications and documents is available free from WHOLIS, the WHO Library web database. WHOLIS indexes all WHO publications from 1948 onwards and articles from WHO-produced journals and technical documents from 1985. http://www.who.int/library/databases/en/
