DHSS Education and Training Centre Keyll Darree, Strang, Isle of Man, IM4 4RH
Keyll Darree is a DHSS, whole Island multi-disciplinary education and training centre and is accessible to all DHSS staff and other associated users.
Keyll Darree provides an environment conducive to the training and continuing education of all health and social care staff within the Department of Health and Social Security and independent sector and is the main (but not only) facility available for this purpose.
Keyll Darree is a modern, purpose built free standing two storey structure situated near to the entrance to Noble’s Hospital. There are some short–stay 2 hour car parking spaces (including 2 for disabled users) in front of the Centre and the Hospital car parks are within easy walking distance. All parts of the building can be accessed by the disabled. There is a lift between floors.
The over-arching aim of the Centre is to enable health and social care workers to provide patient/client care in line with current best evidence, practice and professional guidance. More specifically the Centre provides facilities for clinical education and training activities (including professional education, undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing and other training).
Specifically, however, the Centre’s objectives are:
- To maximise the Centre occupancy rates in the seminar/meeting rooms, including by identifying organisations/societies and other professional bodies to determine their possible interest in using the Centre.
- to promote the Centre for the DHSS as a conference and event venue.
- To promote the library as a modern research and resource facility which complements other information sources within the DHSS and for the purchasing and ordering of books/journals for the DHSS.
- to ameliorate the problems the Island will face now and in the future in securing sufficient skilled staff to care for the Island’s population.
- to facilitate the personal development of staff as an aid to retention and improvement of the delivery of care.
- to provide quality assured academic and other programmes in line with current service needs.
These objectives are to be achieved in keeping with the tenants of ‘The Way Ahead’ to provide a quality service, give equity of access and ensure value for money and financial probity.
