Prison Service
What we do
The Isle of Man Prison Service provides a service to the public by keeping in custody those persons who have been committed by the courts.
Our duties are to keep detainees in custody, and keep order and control in the prison and to produce defendants at court when required. We also encourage them to lead law-abiding lives after release.
Our main objectives are to:
- Keep prisoners in custody
- Maintain order, control and discipline
- Provide clean and safe conditions
- Provide for prisoners’ mental and physical health
- Provide for work and purposeful activity
- Provide for prisoners’ spiritual needs
- Encourage prisoners to refrain from criminal behaviour
- Help prisoners to maintain links with their families
- Hold the confidence of the public, judiciary and legislature
