Prison Officers
The Challenge
Prison Officers have to work with difficult and sometimes dangerous people, and have to make quick decisions and always be ready for the unexpected. Working with prisoners is demanding and can be unpredictable - being able to rise to the challenge makes a career in the Isle of Man Prison Service rewarding in ways that not many other careers can match.
Entry Qualifications:
No formal academic qualifications required
- 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above, (or Equivalent), or pass the Prison Service entrance exam
- Aged between 21 and 49 years
- Physically fit
- Full, Clean Driving Licence
- Manx Worker (preferably)
- No Criminal Record
Operational Support Grades (OSGs)
What do Operational Support Grades do?
Operational Support Grades are employed on a wide variety of duties including:
- Checking in and supervising visitors
- Patrolling and building searching
- Escorting contractors & vehicles
- Stores duties
- Operating the Gate- controlling all movements in to and out of the prison
- Control Room- monitoring CCTV, alarm systems, radios, phones, operating locking systems
- Night duties, (Gate and Control Room)
- Routine administrative work
