The Isle of Man Constabulary – Defeating Domestic Abuse

The Isle of Man Constabulary is committed to providing a positive and effective response to reports of domestic violence. These incidents will be treated seriously and victims accorded the same level of service as victims of other crimes as we seek to prevent repeat victimisation.

The Constabulary continues to work in partnership with other agencies to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and to ensure that perpetrators are made to account for their actions.

Statistics show that within England and Wales two women per week are murdered by their partner or ex-partner. Within the Island we are not immune to such violence, with assaults falling within the definition of domestic abuse accounting for 26% of all recorded violent assaults within the last year.

Incidents of domestic abuse are rarely isolated occurrences. They tend to repeat over a period often increasing in severity and extending beyond the partner to other members of the family, particularly children.

Domestic violence occurs across the whole social spectrum.
