Isle of Man Constabulary
Neighbourhood Policing Teams
During April 2006 the Isle of Man Constabulary restructured itself along a neighbourhood policing team model. This provided the opportunity to reinforce some key beliefs and values, such as localism in policing through the auspices of neighbourhood policing teams and the empowerment of our staff.
This move was accompanied by the injection of a new generation of middle managers at Inspector level who were given the task of driving through these changes to deliver local solutions to local problems supported by a bank of centralised specialist resources. The objective is to raise the confidence all sectors of the community have with the police and the criminal justice system generally. Each member of staff in the teams aims to be highly visible and recognised within their community. This is designed to increase the accessibility by and consultation with the public.
Consultation is the key to achieving this and each NPT Inspector undertakes regular meetings with local commissioners, other agencies and interested parties to identify problems and solutions to be put into place.
Deputy Chief Constable Gary Roberts, currently leads the Neighbourhood Policing Teams, and is able to obtain assistance from specialist resources to support the teams where necessary. The performance of each team has proved to be successful. Performance in a number of key areas is measured individually and monitored from the centre to ensure that we provide the service each community needs and achieve the requirements of the policing plan set by the Department of Home Affairs.
Neighbourhood Policing Teams are based at Ramsey, Peel, Port Erin, Onchan and Douglas. You can click on the hyperlinks or the menus links on the left hand side of this page to gain access to individual pages for each Neighbourhood Policing Team.
