Isle of Man Constabulary
CSI - Links
These links are to the educational and scientific establishments with which we have most contact. Our initial training is with the National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) at Harperley Hall and it is with them that we achieve accreditation as forensic practitioners.
At the same time we undertake a crime scene investigation diploma with Harperley Hall, in association with Durham University, and later there is the option for applying to take a degree in Forensic Investigation with Teesside University.
The Forensic Science Service (FSS) is our traditional forensic science supplier, however in recent years independent companies, such as Cellmark, have created specialist facilities to provide scientific services.
In line with ‘bejavascript://st value principles’, every effort is made to obtain the cheapest scientific provision, without detriment to the evidential value obtained. And consequently we use a variety of laboratories for our examinations.
The U.K. Home Office has overall responsibility for ensuring that excellence in this field is maintained and we are happy to ensure that the forensic service we provide to the Isle of Man is equal to, or better, than that of the U.K. police service.
