Crime Scene Investigation

Crime Scene Investigation in the Isle of Man comes under the Constabulary's Scientific Support Department, also known as Scenes of Crime.

Grahame BellThe department, headed by Detective Sergeant Grahame Bell, deals with all aspects of photography, fingerprints and forensic evidence. It consists of DS Bell, DC Andrew Haddock, DC Alison Thomas and DC Linda Murray. There is also a technical support officer Mr Barry Ramsey.

DS Bell said: 'The purpose of this section of our website is to give members of the public an insight into what a working Crime Scene Investigation Department deals with. Our responsibilities are to the Constabulary, the Courts, and the Coroner's Court in particular.

'Our work entails photographically recording crime scenes and evidence following suspicious deaths so those crime scenes can be viewed by the Courts and juries. Forensic evidence, such as shoe impressions, fibres, glass samples, DNA, etc., is recorded and seized as evidence by our team for later examination at a forensic science laboratory. Additionally, we undertake fingerprint retrieval from various different surfaces for comparison against the national database of offenders' marks at Lancashire Constabulary Fingerprint Bureau.'
