Central Alcohol Unit

Members of the Central Acohol UnitThe Central Alcohol Unit is based at Lord Street Police Station and is a resource of the Isle of Man Constabulary. A key aim of the unit is to contribute significantly to the reduction of alcohol induced crime and disorder in accordance with the Government’s Drug and Alcohol Strategy.

This is undertaken by the following means:

• By working jointly with agencies and departments connected with the Drug and Alcohol Strategy.

• By using education and effective communication.

• By focussing on the control of drinking amongst young people.

• By supporting each of the neighbourhood policing teams and local projects across the Island in dealing with problems relating to alcohol.

• By working in partnership with local authorities and other key stakeholders in the licensing trade.

• By co-ordinating and managing the partnership schemes such as the Manx Entertainment and Licensing Association, ‘Pub-watch’ and ‘Off-watch’.

• By policing the All Island Licensing Court and monitoring adherence to conditions attached to premises and by undertaking the enforcement of licensing offences.

• By measuring and monitoring the levels of alcohol related problems and providing a tactical, effective response.

The Central Alcohol Unit was established in 2002 and has been involved in implementing a supportive and pro-active approach to alcohol related crime and disorder. The Unit is committed to sustaining and improving the levels of safety in our community and retaining the unique quality of life enjoyed on the Isle of Man.
