Police History

Chief Constable Robin Oake 1986-1999

Robin OakeFollowing the retirement of Frank Weedon in 1986, Robin Oake was appointed.

During this period the Constabulary grew in a number of areas and specifically to create posts designed to combat the supply of drugs within the Island. The size of the Financial Crimes Unit was also increased to improve the level of international co-operation and maintain confidence in the financial institutions based in the Island.

The Isle of Man introduced the Police Powers and Procedures Act in 1998 which put on a statutory footing the procedures used by officers in the investigation of crime and detention of prisoners. This legislation was similar to the Police and Criminal evidence Act 1984 in the United Kingdom.
