Police History

Frank Weedon 1972-1986

Frank Weedon, Chief Constable 1972-86Frank Weedon was appointed Chief Constable on 7th February 1972, the eighth person to head the Isle of Man Constabulary since 1863.

He served 30 years with the Thames Valley District, retiring with the rank of Divisional Chief Superintendent, prior to taking up his appointment on the Isle of Man. Under his leadership, the Manx force continued to develop and enabled officers to transfer from other forces without any loss of service.

Mr Weedon was in command during the royal visit in 1972 when the Force was augmented by the Special Constabulary and TT marshals. He was also in command during the Summerland Fire Disaster in August 1973 when 51 people died.
