Joint Drug and Alcohol Strategy

Welcome to the Island’s Drug and Alcohol Strategy site in the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).

The Director of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Research, Margaret O’Reilly, and Dr Andreea Steriu, the Public Health Specialist, Information and Research, provide advice, support and guidance to the Chief Minister, Minister for Home Affairs, Council of Ministers and the Chief Officers Group on drug and alcohol policy and policy issues relating to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).

In relation to the Drug and Alcohol Strategy their key task is to advise and support the Social Policy Committee chaired by the Chief Minister in the development and implementation of the updated Joint Strategy which was launched in April 2005. This involves collaborative work across government departments, statutory and non-statutory agencies, community organisations and other interested parties. The original drug and alcohol strategies were separate documents. In 1999 the Drug Strategy was launched and the Alcohol Strategy was launched in 2000. Both of these strategies were reviewed and updated into a Joint Strategy which was launched in 2005.

Recent annual reports of the Strategy and related research are available on this site under Research and Information, in addition to the Updated Joint Strategy. The latest report of the initial findings of the school survey carried out last year as part of ESPAD (European School Survey Project for Alcohol and other Drugs) can be found at the bottom of this page.
