Welcome to the Communications Division

Introduction

Welcome to the official website of the Department of Home Affairs Communications Division.

The Communications Division operates the Emergency Services Joint Control Room (ESJCR), TETRA (TErrestial Trunked RAdio) system incorporating 2500 user radios including 400 for use in the TT and MGP races and site sharing facilities for the public and private sector such as local radio stations, Manx Telecom’s mobile network and Domicilium.

The ESJCR had a capital project cost of £3.2m and is the envy of other emergency service providers in the UK, Europe, and the Middle and Far East. It opened on 19th April 2004 and has handled more than 4.6million TETRA calls and more than 62,000 emergency 999 calls since then.
