Recent legislative changes:
The Civil Partnership Act 2011 (CPA)

The Act has changed certain aspects of employment law. Rights accorded to persons who are married are now accorded to persons in a civil partnership. The rights in question relate to the Control of Employment Act 1975; the Employment (Sex Discrimination) Act 2000; and the Employment Act 2006.

Forthcoming legislative changes with implementation date:
The Minimum Wage (Single Hourly Rate) (No. 2) Regulations 2011

These Regulations, which were approved by Tynwald on 18th October 2011, increased the single hourly rate of the minimum wage from £6.10 to £6.20 for a worker aged 18 or over in respect of any pay reference period beginning on or after 1st November 2011.

Control of Employment Bill and Regulations

The Department plans to bring forward a new Control of Employment Bill and Regulations which will replace the existing legislation.
2011/12 legislative sessionThe Department consulted on proposals for new legislation earlier this year. For further details click here.
Equality Bill

The Department is presently working on a Bill which will deal with discrimination comprehensively on the grounds of race; religion; sexual orientation; age; disability; and gender reassignment.
 Further information will be published about this Bill shortly.
