The Department has three main functions. These are - to support, and work in partnership with, the Island's agricultural and sea fishing industries to develop a vibrant rural economy, food security and maintenance of our natural environment;
- to promote and enhance the Island's natural heritage, which is rightly considered to be the "jewel in its crown"; and
- to maximise the potential for amenity and recreational enjoyment of the Department's landholdings for the benefit of the Island's people.
