The Department monitors the following crops for pests and diseases :- winter and spring wheat, winter and spring barley, winter and spring oats, peas, beans and lupins.

The purpose of the monitoring which takes place during the main crop growing season, early April until July each year is to see if there is any build up of crop pests or diseases on the Island. Fields are chosen to give a wide variety of soil types, climate and altitude throughout the Island as well as different varieties of each crop type.

Results of the survey will be found under news at times of year when monitoring is taking place.
