Horticulture

Advisory

On the Island there are just under 200 acres dedicated to the growing of vegetables, fruit, flowers, nursery stock and bulbs of which 23 acres are under glass.

Due to the specialist nature of growing the majority of these horticulture crops an adviser from the UK is contracted by the Department to help with specific queries from growers. The adviser visits the Island usually three times a year to discuss various aspects of growing specific plants with the individual growers.

The Department also supports the horticultural industry by providing grants and loans to growers.
