Land Classification
Government Circular 64/08 "A Land Classification Policy for agricultural businesses in the Isle of Man" can be downloaded from this site. It was submitted with the Countryside Care Scheme to Tynwald in December 2008 when the Scheme was approved.
All farmers have been notified of the classification of the land which was declared on the 2008 census. Appeals against the classification must be made within 30 days of receipt of the notification letter. Click here to go to the Appeals Process.
The method used for deciding whether land is Above or Below the Mountain Line is described in the Mapping Guidance document which can be downloaded from this site. Farmers who are considering appealing against the classification of their land may find it helpful to check the document first. For queries concerning land classification, please contact the Field Officers on 842495.
