Dutch Elm Disease Replacement Tree Planting Grant Scheme
The Department encourages the replacement of trees lost through Dutch elm disease with broadleaf deciduous species such as oak or beech. Replacement of elm with elm in high risk areas would carry the risk of re-infection. A grant is available whereby the Department will supply and plant sympathetic alternative species where landowners have lost elms through the disease.
Amenity Tree Planting and Small Woods Scheme
Owners of land may submit an application for a scheme for tree planting, which can include a shrub layer. Successful applicants must pay 60% of the gross cost and all work will be undertaken by the Department's own forestry staff. A leaflet giving more details of the scheme is available below.
