Protection of Water

Some farm waste materials such as silage effluent, waste milk and slurry can, if released into watercourses, seriously damage the environment as well as causing a health risk to the general public.

Farmers are therefore encouraged and given some financial support to provide adequate storage and safe methods of disposal of waste products.

The Isle of Man Water Authority's "Code of Good Agricultural Practice for the Protection of Water" is available free of charge from this Department or here. If having read the Code farmers still have any queries especially with the siting and size of storage facilities for waste products they should contact the agricultural advisory staff at Thie Slieau Whallian, agriculture@gov.im or on 685835.
