Chief Secretary's Office

The Chief Secretary’s Office plays a central role in the work of the Isle of Man Government, co-ordinating its corporate initiatives and managing its international relationships.

In a changing, highly competitive and globalised world, these are aspects of Government that are of increasing relevance to the future prosperity and well-being of the Island and its people. The Office contributes to the good government of the Isle of Man by providing professional advice and services to the Chief Minister, the Council of Ministers and to His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor.

The Office plays a key supportive role by working in partnership with Departments, Boards and other Government Offices to ensure the development and performance of effective policies, processes and the delivery of efficient public services that promote the Island’s economy, quality of life, and sense of community. These relationships will become ever more important in the year ahead as Government works together to refocus its energy into delivering a robust and revitalised structure.

The Office holds a pivotal presence at the centre to ensure that there is modern and dynamic Government, fit for purpose in the 21st century. The Isle of Man must understand and remain ready to respond to emerging international challenges and opportunities, in a world of increased scrutiny, changing political and social expectations, global economic fragility and evolving regulatory standards.

Against this background, the Office takes a leading role in helping to promote further economic development, and in protecting our quality of life and the Island’s constitutional position. The Office is responsible for building solid and positive relations with international decision makers and opinion leaders; creating greater awareness of the Island’s history, economy and culture, as well as its aspirations for the future, and ensuring that immigration, e-borders and security policies continue to serve the best interests of the residents of the Isle of Man.

The mission of the Office, in short, is to support good government and protect the international reputation of the Isle of Man, so that all residents may feel they have the freedom to flourish.
