The future of Euroclub

At the Annual General Meeting of Euroclub, held on Thursday 30 November 2006, the membership voted overwhelmingly in favour of an amendment tabled by the Managing Committee to bring Euroclub to an end after 14 successful years. This decision was taken in response to the considerable changes which have occurred since 1992 to the ways in which the Isle of Man Government interacts with the outside world. In the years since its launch in 1992, Euroclub has welcomed over 60 guest speakers, a vast majority of whom were - or still are - leaders in their field of expertise. The document at the bottom of the page lists these speakers and the dates on which they addressed the Club.

What are the next steps?

The External Relations Division of the Chief Secretary's Office will put forward proposals to the relevant committee of the Council of Ministers for a new forum for hosting off-Island speakers. The basis of these proposals - on which Euroclub members were consulted - will be to have a broader focus for topics (international rather than primarily European) and a broader audience in attendance. The membership element, the key feature of Euroclub, has been discontinued, and in future the audience will be invited on a more inclusive basis.

Who do I contact for further information?
