Joint Drug and Alcohol Strategy
Welcome to the Drug and Alcohol Strategy site. The Strategy Coordinator is Margaret O’Reilly who is a member of the Strategy Unit team.
The Strategy Unit provides advice, support and guidance to the Chief Minister, Council of Ministers and the Chief Officers Group on a wide range of policy issues and management of government business. In addition the Strategy Unit coordinates and leads cross government strategies and initiatives such as the Joint Drug and Alcohol Strategy.
In relation to the Drug and Alcohol Strategy the Coordinator’s key task is to advise and support the Council of Minister’s Drug/Alcohol Strategy Committee in the development and implementation of the updated Joint Strategy which was launched in April 2005. This involves collaborative work across government departments, statutory and non-statutory agencies, community organisations and other interested parties. The Drug/Alcohol Strategy Committee meets on a quarterly basis under the umbrella of the Social Policy Committee which is chaired by the Chief Minister.
The original drug and alcohol strategies were separate documents. In 1999 the Drug Strategy was launched and the Alcohol Strategy was launched in 2000. Both of these strategies were reviewed and updated into a Joint Strategy which was launched in 2005.
Since 1999 both the original strategies and the annual reports are available on this site below in addition to the Updated Joint strategy.
