It is the role of the Crown Division to ensure the effective management of the executive functions vested in the office of the Lieutenant Governor, and other miscellaneous functions vested in the Chief Secretary's Office.

In general terms these functions are as follows:-
Services to the Lieutenant Governor
- General advice as required
- Administer various appointments
- Administrative support for Royal and other Visits
- Assist with Swearing-In (every 5 years)
- Arrange the establishment and servicing of miscellaneous public inquiries undertaken in the lieutenant governor's name
- Royal Assent Advisory Committee
Information about the Lieutenant Governor
Immigration, Passports and Nationality
- Manage the issue of passports
- Process applications for naturalisation and registration as British citizens from persons resident on the Isle of Man
- Process applications to enter or remain on Isle of Man by foreign nationals and to enforce immigration legislation
Planning Appeals and Inquiries
- Secretariat for Town and Country Planning Appeals
- Secretariat for Area Plan Inquiries
Service to Independent Appeal Systems, Enquiries and Committees
- Copyright Tribunal
- Data Protection Tribunal
- Civil Service Appeal Tribunal
- Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal (the Advocates Disciplinary Rules and ADT Guidance Notes are available to download from the foot of this page)
- Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Committee
- Corporate Service Provider Appeals Tribunal
- Service one-off inquiries/committees as required
Miscellaneous
- Assist with Elections and Bye-Elections
- Administer appointments to Crown livings
- Act as the Finance Section for the Chief Secretary's Office
