The Treasury is undertaking this consultation exercise with the Financial Supervision Commission, the Isle of Man Bankers Association (“IoMBA”), related financial service industry participants and the public during September and October 2009, following which detailed depositor data may be requested from banking licence holders if additional stress testing of any agreed proposal is to be undertaken. Following this exercise, revised proposals will be drawn up focusing on ways in which the Island might provide affordable depositors’ protection and best respond to future bank illiquidity or insolvency, whilst maintaining international confidence in the Isle of Man as a financial centre.

At a recent meeting between the Crown Dependencies (“CDs”), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (“ICAEW”) and the Professional Oversight Board (“POB”), agreement was reached on the proposed timing of introduction and level of registration fees for the recognised auditor oversight regime. The Department is planning to amend the Sewerage Act 1999. The amendments will strengthen the Department’s existing powers of entry in connection with its sewerage functions, and expand and clarify the meaning of the term ‘Sewage Disposal Works’.
