The Insurance and Pensions Authority recognises that Isle of Man insurers and insurance managers already adopt governance principles in the management of their business affairs. Many companies have a well defined governance framework with documented policies, defined roles and responsibilities, strong corporate culture, and effective risk management and internal control systems.

However, there is variation within the market in the extent to which such principles are applied, and documented. For this and other reasons indicated below, the Authority proposes to introduce the Corporate Governance Code of Practice for Insurers (the “CGC”).

Plans to allow companies whose shares are traded on a market to hold up to 10% of shares in treasury are being progressed by the Financial Supervision Commission (“the Commission”).

The purpose of the draft Order is to provide for additional permitted disclosures of information under section 12 of the Gender Recognition Act 2009. As with the Act itself, the draft Order is generally based on the UK legislation but, in addition, it also provides for a 100 year rule for the disclosure of information contained in the Island's Gender Recognition Register.

The Financial Provisions Bill 2010 makes provision for additional powers for Treasury and Government authorities which have not been specifically provided for in existing legislation.
